Veeti Salmi, Nightwood Skateboards team rider, takes the spotlight in the latest Confusion Magazine issue 40.

Veeti Salmi, feeble at Havumäki Ranc, Finland.

As everyone in the printed zine universe already knows, things haven’t exactly been rolling smooth for paper mags lately. Distribution hiccups, printing costs, the usual end-of-an-era chaos. Issue 40 of Confusion Magazine never quite made it to the presses—but that doesn’t mean the stories inside vanished into thin air.

Veeti Salmi, Nightwood’s own northern missile from Tampere, is in the center of it all this time. Not metaphorically. Literally. Or at least as literal as anything gets in the collapsing universe of DIY skate publishing where deadlines are suggestions and reality is more of a loose affiliation.

Printed mags are supposed to be fading out quietly, right? Folding neatly into nostalgia, like old skate wax and cracked tail blocks. But Confusion didn’t get the memo. It just… failed to arrive. Which somehow feels more punk than actually arriving.

And still, it exists.

After Jartsi Heikkinen getting inked into the myth machine, after Meelis Erm’s name echoed through those beautifully unstable pages, now Veeti steps in—another Nightwood frequency vibrating through the static of European curb culture. No red carpet, just broken pavement and a scanner that overheats halfway through the upload.

This isn’t journalism. It’s survival documentation. It’s spots remembered wrong on purpose. It’s photos that look like they were developed in someone’s pocket during a slam.

And somewhere in the middle of all this paper-mess philosophy, the magazine still manages to point at what matters: the riders, the DIY spots, the weird little fire that keeps skateboarding from turning into a brochure.

If you want to keep this kind of beautiful failure-machine alive, support the Confusion gear when it drops. Support the people still making things that don’t behave properly on the internet. And keep an eye on the Nightwood shop—new weirdness is already rolling in like a storm nobody forecasted.

Support your international weirdos.

And if the magazine never prints again? Well, that just means it finally learned how to haunt properly.
